Actor Russell Hornsby — who plays a dad in the critically acclaimed “The Hate U Give” — said his role in the intense drama took an emotional toll.
“I have had a therapist, but at the same time, I have allowed the work to break me down,” he told Page Six. He added of his work as an actor, “I have allowed the work to just lean on me as a man — where I have broken down and cried because of aspects of dealing with father-son issues, familiar issues, black issues.”
In the film, he plays an ex-con who served three years to protect a drug lord. He’s moved on to star in the new Fox series, “Proven Innocent”.
