A Michigan father was fatally struck by a car while trying to remove his daughter’s dead cat from a roadway before she saw it.
The Saginaw County sheriff’s office says 50-year-old Andrew Rosas of Merrill, was struck before sunrise on Tuesday by a woman who was driving to work and apparently didn’t see him.
Jennifer Rosas, who saw her husband get hit, said he went into the roadway with a shovel to remove the cat.
She told WNEM-TV that he tried to get the driver’s attention by holding up the shovel.
‘She just plowed into him, didn’t put on her brakes, nothing,’ Jennifer said. ‘I saw the whole thing.’
Andrew was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jennifer described her husband as having ‘a big heart’ and said he’d ‘help anybody’.
Her sister created a GoFundMe account for the Rosas family.
‘Our world changed, in the blink of an eye…my sister lost her husband,’ the account reads.
‘Please, please pay attention while you’re driving, even taking your eyes off the road for a couple seconds can result in death.
‘Andrew would do anything for anybody and that’s what he was doing during his last moments on this earth….with his big heart, he was trying to protect his daughters heart from seeing her cat,’ the account continued.
Investigators told the station that the 32-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck Andrew didn’t see him because he was wearing dark clothes.
Jennifer said that she not only has to bury her husband, but she had to bury his mother as well.
Andrew’s mother recently died and her funeral takes place on Saturday.
Jennifer said she and her husband spent Monday planning the service.
‘Now I have to live here and see where he died every day,’ Jennifer told the station.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the crash, which took place about 95 miles northwest of Detroit.
No charges have been filed against the driver. The case will be reviewed by prosecutors.
