A woman was shot dead by her boyfriend in Athens on Saturday morning, police said.
The body of Latisha Gresham, 36, was found at a home on Moreland Avenue when a man returned home from work and found her lying in the hallway, according to Athens-Clarke County police. He called 911 about 8:20 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found the woman had been shot and was unresponsive, and she was later pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.
After questioning another man in the house, officers charged Marion Adkins, 40, with murder in connection with Gresham’s death. Police told the Athens Banner-Herald he was Gresham’s boyfriend.
Adkins allegedly admitted to police that he was holding a gun while arguing with Gresham, and the gun discharged, killing her, the Banner-Herald reported.
According to the newspaper, this is the first homicide case of 2019 in the city of Athens.
Adkins was being held in the Clarke County Jail Sunday afternoon.
