Taraji P. Henson felt the need to clarify her stance on alleged abuser R. Kelly Tuesday.
As she wrote on Twitter, in all caps: “R. KELLY IS GUILTY AND WRONG AND SHOULD BE MUTED PERIOD!!!!!”
Why all the yelling? Well, the “What Men Want” actress was earlier under fire for sharing a controversial Instagram Story that showed a confusing stance on the singer, who was recently the subject of the Lifetime docu-series “Surviving R. Kelly.”
In since-deleted posts, Henson shared videos of searches for the #MuteRKelly hashtag on Instagram, and compared those high number of hashtag hits to the low number of posts containing #MuteWeinstein or #MuteHarveyWeinstein hashtags.
“HMMMMM,” Henson wrote on Instagram Stories.
Fans were baffled by the meaning of the videos and chastised Henson on Twitter for seemingly comparing Kelly with Weinstein, and implying that Kelly was being treated unfairly.
Writer Roxane Gay had a reaction that was shared by many when she joked, “What is Taraji doing.gif?”
Journalist Ernest Owens suggested somebody “tap Taraji on the shoulder and tell her now isn’t the time to throw her career in the drain for defending a trash can named R. Kelly.”
“What is life?” asked journalist Jarrett Hill.
Several followers suggested that Henson didn’t understand that an R. Kelly “mute” was unrelated to Weinstein and his sexual assault cases because Kelly’s a musician whose music can be turned off by listeners, whereas Weinstein was a movie producer.
After her first name became a Twitter trend, and after she took down the hashtag comparison, Henson left followers kisses and exclamation points emphasizing that she was not on Kelly’s side.
