‘Biblical’ Sandstorm Turns Cairo Orange as Residents Advised to Stay Indoors

A ‘biblical’ sandstorm has turned the Egyptian city of Cairo orange.

Some locals have had to seek shelter indoors after high winds carried a thick blanket of dust over the area.

Authorities have told those with respiratory problems to avoid going outside while the sand is in the air – while many others used masks or scarves to cover their faces.

The brutal winds caused rough seas and forced the ports of Suez and Zeitiyat to shut.

The bizarre weather event is unusual in January and locals who filmed the incredible sight noted the odd temperature while the orange hue hung over the city.

One man said: “The temperature was also quite cold, despite the warm tones.

“It hovered around 10-15 degrees Celsius.”
