Andrew Gillum, the Democratic nominee for governor of Florida, conceded to Republican Ron DeSantis Saturday evening, days after he noted that he didn’t think he would win during a recount but wanted to see every vote tallied. Gillum who trailed DeSantis by roughly 34,000 votes tweeted that he wanted to congratulate DeSantis on “becoming the next Governor of the great state of Florida.” He added that he and his wife “could not be prouder of the way we ran this race.” Gillum who said he stayed in the race to make sure all votes were counted and not to discourage those who voted, thanked his supporters in a follow up message, for “the support that was shown by millions of Floridians. I encourage y’all to keep fighting for what we believe in.”
