Daron Wint was found guilty Thursday in the brutal murders of a wealthy couple, their 10-year-old son, and the family’s housekeeper inside their Washington, D.C., mansion. Wint was convicted of multiple counts of murder as well as kidnapping, burglary, and arson in the killings of Amy and Savvas Savopoulos, Philip Savopoulos, and Veralicia Figueroa. Their bodies were found by firefighters in their smoldering home on May 14, 2015. They’d been beaten, strangled, and stabbed to death, according to authorities. During the six-week trial, prosecutors alleged that Wint—who’d once worked for Savopoulos’ iron-supply company—carried out the horrific slayings alone to collect $40,000 in ransom. His DNA was found on a pizza crust inside the home, prosecutors said. Wint’s defense attorneys claimed that his brother, Darrell Wint, was the real mastermind behind the slayings.
