He was only 24 years old when Top Gun was released to theaters in 1986.
And 32 years later, Tom Cruise doesn’t look like he aged one bit while on the set of the film’s sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, in San Diego, California.
The 56-year-old movie star, who is reprising his role as LT Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, looked at ease as he filmed scenes while on a motorcycle in the character’s trademark jacket and sunglasses.
The original film was a blockbuster hit that put Cruise on the map; his co-stars were Anthony Edwards, Meg Ryan, Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer.
The sequel was supposed to come out years ago but the original director Tony Scott, who was set to direct the new installment, died by suicide in 2012.

The handsome movie star, who is also an avid motorcycle rider and pilot, was seen riding the bike around the set on Tuesday. He sported an olive colored jacket with a white shirt beneath, adding denim bottoms and boots.
The film, Top Gun: Maverick is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2020. It was originally slated for release on July 12, 2019 but it was delayed so filmmakers can work out logistics with the complex flight scenes, Deadline reported.

Over the summer, Tom gave fans a health update on Val while he promoted Mission Impossible – Fallout in Paris, revealing that his co-star is ‘doing really well.’ He added that it is ‘special’ he gets to work with him again, reports People.
Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris were also announced as part of the cast.
Both Miles and Glen auditioned for the role of LT JG Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw’s son but Miles ultimately won the role of Bradley Bradshaw.
Bradley is described as a pilot trainee of the late Goose; Goose was played by Anthony Edwards in the 1986 film.
Nicholas Hoult, Austin Butler and Dylan O’Brien were also in the running for the role of Bradley.

However, Glen impressed Tom and the producers of the sequel so much so during his audition that they cast him in a different role. His character’s name or details of his role are unknown at the time.
Deadline reported that Tom’s character Maverick will be a Top Gun flight instructor in the sequel; he serves as a mentor to Goose’s son.
Kelly McGillis played the character Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Blackwood in the original Top Gun film; there are no confirmed reports she has joined the sequel.

Top Gun: Maverick is being directed by Joseph Kosinski; the screenplay is by Zack Stentz, Ashley Edward Miller, Justin Marks and Peter Craig. Producers for the movie include Tom himself, Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison.
Filming for the sequel kicked off on May 31, 2018 in San Diego, California.
The original Top Gun was released to theaters on May 16, 1986. The film, directed by Tony Scott, was produced by Jerry and Don Simpson. Director Tony Scott died by suicide in August 2012; he was 68 years old.

The movie became a huge hit, grossing over $356 million, with a budget of only $15 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Top Gun was the highest grossing film of 1986.
Top Gun was Tom’s eighth feature film in his now-hugely successful career.
Since then, the worldwide star and household name has starred in a number of hits including the Mission: Impossible franchise, War Of The Worlds, Rain Man, A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire and Days Of Thunder.
