Sen. Ted Cruz got run out of a restaurant in Washington, DC, on Monday night by a group of activists — who shouted “We believe survivors” in protest of Judge Brett Kavanaugh and his Supreme Court bid.
Footage posted on Twitter by “Smash Racism DC” shows the demonstrators in action, some of whom approach the Texas lawmaker and speak to him directly.
“I know that you’re very close friends with Mr. Kavanaugh,” one woman says to him. “But do you believe survivors, sir? We believe survivors!”
Following Cruz and his wife through the restaurant, the self-described constituent and “survivor of sexual assault” then proceeds to shout: “Senator, I have a right to know what your position is on Brett Kavanaugh.”
To which Cruz says, “God bless you, ma’am.”
The activists eventually surround his table, prompting the Republican and his wife to leave.
“Let’s go ahead and go,” Cruz can be heard saying.
Judge Kavanaugh is currently facing sexual misconduct allegations from at least two women as lawmakers prepare to vote whether to place him on the Supreme Court.
Sen. Cruz has voiced his support for him, but also called on the accusations to be addressed.
“Vote no on Kavanaugh!” one protester screamed at him. “Cancel Kavanaugh for women’s rights.”
