George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, tweeted at President Trump on Friday that the country needs a leader who understands how to faithfully execute the law.

“What everyone should want, and the country needs, is a ‘President’ capable of comprehending what it means to ‘take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed,’” Conway tweeted.

Conway, a conservative lawyer, was responding to Trump’s tweet about Attorney General General Jeff Sessions’s statement that the Justice Department will not be “improperly influenced by political considerations.”

That’s “what everyone wants,” Trump said in a tweet Friday morning.

Conway also cited Article II of the Constitution, sometimes known as the Faithful Execution or Take Care Clause, that imposes a duty on the president to enforce the laws of the United States.

Trump has repeatedly criticized his attorney general this week and questioned his loyalty during an interview with Fox News.

Sessions, who rarely responds, then released a sharp rebuttal on Thursday.

“While I am attorney general, the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations,” Sessions said in a statement. “I demand the highest standards, and where they are not met, I take action.”

George Conway’s tweets critical of Trump are a stark contrast to his wife’s strong defense of her boss.
