New Viral Video Shows San Francisco Woman Calling the Police on Street Vendor

In yet another viral video making the rounds on social media, a San Francisco woman nicknamed ‘Permit Betty’ can be seen questioning a street vendor over a permit on Market Street.

A video uploaded to Facebook on Wednesday shows the woman, who a number of Facebook users identified as Rene Folena, talking on the phone with someone while standing next to a street vendor.

The man recording the video calls the woman “Permit Betty,” and accuses her of “trying to mess with people just trying to make a living.”

“Sorry guys, they have to have the permits,” Folena says in the video. “If they’re trying to make a living here you would never be able to walk on the sidewalk.”

The video has been viewed nearly 1 million times on Facebook and has been shared over 22,000 times. The Twitter hashtag #PermitBetty has been used by hundreds of Twitter users over the past two days.

Folena works for Streetplus, a community group that works with the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District (YBCBD).
