Sunny Hostin Says She Was Racially Harassed on Fourth of July, in Sag Harbor of All Places

Sunny Hostin returned to The View desk on Monday with an unfortunate story to tell from her Fourth of July holiday.

The former prosecutor says she and her family and friends rented a home in the Hamptons village of Sag Harbor for the week, where they became the victims of a racist attack.

‘We were there celebrating, and some kids, about 20 of them, ran in front of our home, and started yelling the n-word at us,’ Hostin recalled on The View on Monday.

She says that the teens also yelled at them: ‘This is America, we are patriots, this is our holiday’.

The teens broke her paddleboard too, Hostin added.

‘The were kind of violent,’ she said.

Hostin then showed a video she took in the aftermath of the attack, when she and some other members of her party confronted some teens they found outside the house.

In the video, they asked if they were from the same group that was shouting the racial slur, but the kids were emphatic that it was a different group.

Hostin says she filed a police report and that authorities ‘were wonderful’.

‘They were just as outraged as we were,’ she says.

Hostin says they later learned that the group of teens traveled from as far as New Jersey to target them, because Sag Harbor is a traditionally black community, being one of the first seaside towns in the country where African-Americans could buy property.

‘This area is supposed to be a safe haven, a place of pride,’ she said.

Unfortunately the incident put a sour note on what was supposed to be a weekend of rest and relaxation, for both her and her friends.
