Tom Brady Won’t be Present at Patriots’ OTAs

Star quarterback Tom Brady will not be present at the open of organized team activities for the New England Patriots, which begin Monday, according to multiple reports.

Though Brady has skipped the rest of New England’s offseason program this year, missing the start of OTAs (or phase 3 of the offseason program) is more significant. The sessions are still voluntary, but this is essentially the first time players can come together as a team to run through football-specific drills. Contact is still prohibited in phase three, but teams can start practicing 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills.

Phases one and two of the offseason program are largely based on strength and conditioning, and any on-field instruction is restricted to an individual basis.

Brady had been a regular presence at New England’s OTAs in the past, but his absence this offseason may be due to ongoing tensions between the quarterback and the team’s front office.
