A hotel clerk in Virginia has been fired for calling a black customer “monkey”.

The clerk, who worked at Country Inn & Suites by Radisson in Newport News, VA, was caught on camera muttering a curse word and the word “monkey” after an interaction with a black customer,  Irby Fogleman. The clerk had told Fogleman to “get off my property” and called him rude.”

The hotel’s manager fired the clerk the next day.

According to the Associated Press, “Fogleman says he and his family were at the hotel to see his mother, who was visiting. He says he had asked the clerk to for a new room because his mother’s room smelled like smoke.”
