Children Need a Whipping When They Do Wrong but Not Especially on Their Birthdays

Have you heard about the Texas school that has this strange rite of passage where they give a child a whipping on their birthday? Back in the sixties and seventies, parents gave teachers permission to take their disobedient child out in the hallway and give him or her a good old-fashioned butt whipping with a paddle that had small holes in it. I remember because I got a few. Now, we have teachers giving children “birthday” whippings without the parents’ permission or knowledge.

Here’s what is going on from NBC DFW:

An elementary school in Wise County is ending its unusual practice of spanking children on their birthday. The spankings have been part of a tradition at Alvord Elementary School. But after receiving some complaints, the school’s principal, Bridget Williams, has decided each child will receive a hug or a high five instead.

Children need a whipping when they do wrong, but not especially on their birthday. How about the other 364 days of the year?

Parents, don’t let other people spank your children. You do it yourself. You have God’s Word on it.

Proverbs 13:24 says, “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”

Proverbs 22:15 says, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
