A former Green Bay Packers player and father-of-two has been found shot to death in his home in Alabama.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says former Packers defensive lineman Carlos Gray was discovered unresponsive shortly before 10pm on Monday on Balboa Terrace near Birmingham.
Al.com reports that sheriff’s deputies and Center Point Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the house after Gray’s girlfriend found him mortally wounded.
The woman told deputies she last saw Gray alive about an hour earlier when she left the house.
As investigators were going through the crime scene, they reportedly discovered a Glock handgun with an extended magazine and an AK-47 rifle with a large capacity magazine, marijuana and digital scales.
Gray played at North Carolina State University and signed a three-year, $1.5million contract with the Packers as a free agent in 2014.
Al.com reports that he was released from the Packers in 2015 and returned home to Alabama, where he reinvented himself as a party promoter, house flipper and car salesman. He was the father of two young children, a boy and a girl.
His aunt mourned Gray on Facebook, writing of the 300-pound athlete: ‘He was truly a gentle giant with a big heart.’
