A 21-year-old Oklahoma City father is facing murder charges after admitting that he threw his three-month-old son against a wall because he would not stop crying.
Deion Reed said he was frustrated that his son Dexter was so tearful and would not settle down, newsok.com reported.
At one point he confessed to running the boy’s head head into the door in an effort to quieten him.
Reed said during an interview with police that he was the only one in the apartment with Dexter, according to KWTV.
He is reported to have told different stories about how the injuries occurred, later telling an investigator he would soon tell ‘the truth,’ about what happened, according to an affidavit.
Dexter died in hospital on Monday – doctors told police he had ‘non-accidental impact to the front and back of his head’ and bruising could be seen.
Reed said that after the door incident, he did not notice any marks on the boy’s head and continued to grow more frustrated as the infant kept crying.
Demonstrating with a doll during an interview, Reed said he ‘tossed’ Dexter across a bed and into a wall.
An investigator said the doll hit the wall ‘with a significant amount of force’, according to the affidavit.
Deion Reed was arrested and is being held without bail at the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of murder and child abuse.
Dexter’s death is the fourth child abuse related homicide in Oklahoma City involving children less than a year old this year and the sixth for the city in less than a year.
