Melania Trump is helping recognize 10 women from around the world for acts of courage.
The first lady says the women are heroes who have made the world a better place. Her public appearance Friday followed CNN’s broadcast of an interview with a former Playboy model who says she had an affair with President Donald Trump in 2006. Mrs. Trump did not address the model’s claim in her remarks.
The first lady presented the awards at a State Department ceremony.
The Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award recognizes women for showing courage and leadership in advocating for peace, justice, human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment — often at personal risk.
The recipients are from Afghanistan, Guatemala, Honduras, Iraq, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mauritania, Rwanda and Thailand.
