The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI) a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans, will not be supporting the current #MeToo movement because it is divisive, and it is promoting the destruction of families. The movement indicates that every segment of society should support women over men, and that is not what we are doing. We are only concerned with promoting strong Black families, men, women and children.
Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative says, “We are astonished that white society has decided to push a single sex, all women agenda on everyone and that African Americans’ fight for equality should take a back seat to the #MeToo movement. The Black church understands that the #MeToo movement is trying to manipulate the societal family agenda. We say no to that. We will not push a single sex, all women agenda. We will not push a white women #MeToo movement. We will use our enormous energy and moral influence towards healing and correcting the Black family.”
NBCI has already stated categorically that it will never be an apologist to any men who abuse women and children in any way. But, this does not mean that we are going to support a woman’s only agenda. The Black church believes that this will be divisive and serve as a tool to only break up the whole concept of family in general.
Families have problems. Families, churches and appropriate clinical professionals can work those problems out. The #MeToo movement says that if you make a mistake you should be punished for the rest of your life. This is contrary to the Christian notion of forgiveness.
We also believe that supporting the #MeToo movement will undermine the African American agenda for racial equality across the board and we are not going to support the agenda of rich white women and their agenda to neuter men.
The Black church will only use all of its strength and efforts to support strong Black families. We want to make men loving, sensitive and supportive of their wives and families. We want children to show obedience to their parents and we want women to possess the love and compassion of a mother. NBCI believes that the #MeToo movement is trying to get society to change its agenda on the issue of marriage and divorce by using the abuse narrative that will promote women over men. Many will say that the church is foolish but, the church will not be used by anyone to promote a single sex agenda.
