Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team has reportedly zeroed in on possible efforts by President Donald Trump to fire his attorney general, Jeff Sessions. The Washington Post reports that investigators have begun asking witnesses “in detail” about the matter as part of the probe into potential obstruction of justice. In particular, the Post reports, witnesses have faced questions about “Trump’s private comments and state of mind in late July and early August of last year,” when he began to publicly assail his attorney general. Mueller’s team was reportedly seeking information on whether Trump intended to fire Sessions in order to replace him with someone who would rein in the Russia investigation.
