“Thank you Whitney Houston for being the best inspiration ever!” cheered Christina Aguilera Sunday night at the 2017 American Music Awards, following a medley of “The Bodyguard” soundtrack songs that commemorated 25 years since the release of the best-selling movie album of all time.

Aguilera sang snippets of smashes “I Will Always Love You,” “I Have Nothing,” “Run To You,” and “I’m Every Woman,” and while the first chunk of the performance had its share of flat notes, the showcase gained steam near the end — she was joined by a choir for “Every Woman” — and seemed to finish strong.

Nevertheless, many viewers immediately took to social media Sunday night to roast Aguilera for what some called a cringe-worthy performance.

Lots of folks tweeted out this picture of Pink, who appeared to be cringing herself over the performance. Or she was just really into it as she clarified later.
