It was touch and go for a couple of playoff hopefuls for a few minutes on Saturday, but in the end very little changed in the Amway Coaches Poll. The top 12 teams are in the same position, with Alabama still the unanimous choice at No. 1.
The Crimson Tide claimed all 64 first-place votes after what amounted to a scrimmage against Mercer on the eve of a huge Iron Bowl showdown with No. 6 Auburn. No. 2 Miami (Fla.) had a significantly tougher time in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest against Virginia, but the Hurricanes eventually pulled away to keep their record unblemished. They’ll face No. 3 Clemson for the ACC title in two weeks.
Wisconsin, the only contender facing another ranked opponent over the weekend, used a strong second half to outlast Michigan to stay undefeated, but the Badgers still didn’t get enough points to overtake Clemson. Oklahoma holds steady at No. 5, and the Sooners now know they’ll be taking on TCU in the Big 12 title game.
