Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “Salvator Mundi,” or “Savior of the World,” sold for $450 million at a Christie’s auction in New York on Wednesday. It’s a world record for any piece of artwork sold at an auction. The painting, which depicts Jesus Christ, is the only da Vinci painting known to be privately owned. It was owned for a time by King Charles I of England. The previous world record was Pablo Picasso’s “Women of Algiers (Version O),” which went for $179.4 million in 2015.
