A Chinese student at the University of Utah was fatally shot by a suspected gunman also wanted for another killing in Colorado, police said.

Austin Boutain, 24, who police say shot ChenWei Guo outside the campus’ eastern border Monday night during an attempted carjacking, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon around 2:45 p.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department said.

He had been seen earlier in a green pickup truck with Colorado plates, which Utah officials believe he stole during an earlier killing in Golden, CO.

Police have also taken Boutain’s wife into custody in Salt Lake City. She appeared on the University of Utah’s campus Monday night, saying her husband had assaulted her while they were camping in the Emigration Canyon. They then got the call about a man with a gunshot wound to his head.

Authorities tracked down their camp site in the canyon, where they found a gun as well as ammunition.

Boutian, who has a cross tattoo on his face and was wearing black clothing, was considered armed and dangerous during a manhunt Tuesday, cops said.
