St. Luke’s Community United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX, held a benefit concert to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts this Sunday.

Pastor Michael Bowie, who is from Houston, led the effort to provide for victim’s needs. Janet Bell Odom, a church member who is a disaster relief coordinator for the United Methodist Church, helped out.

Bowie told Fox 4 News, “Being away from Houston, I was paralyzed. I couldn’t do anything. Seeing I-10 in Houston underwater, and seeing Rockport devastated. I mean, the whole community decimated. They lost everything, and here we have everything.”

The event included singing and dancing, and an offering especially for the victims was taken up.

Bowie told attendees, “Prayer is good, but prayer without action is really kind of null and void. So we’re going to pray about it, but we’re going to back it up with some resources and some funds to help bring about healing.”
