TEXT: Revelation 22:13-15
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
The Free State of Glory (Part 45): Those Within and Those Without, Part 3
From this passage, we have talked about the two groups of people who will be alive when the New Heaven and the New Earth are created. There will, of course, be those who received Jesus Christ as Savior while on this earth and who served Him faithfully. They will be allowed into the New Jerusalem; they will live within its gates. Then there will be those who are without the gates of the New Jerusalem. These people are those who rejected Christ in this life and who did not serve Him. Paul characterizes them as wild “dogs” who are unclean, people who loved their sin more than the chance at Heaven.
Then he lists specifically some of the “dogs” who are left without the city:
First, there are “sorcerers.” The term indicates those who “prepare and use drugs for magical purposes.” Even back then, people were using plant-based drugs to “get high,” believing that the hallucinogenic properties and altered state of mind produced by taking them opened a door to the spiritual realm. This was presumably a way of getting in touch with spiritual forces. Psychics and diviners used certain plants to put themselves under the influence; when they returned to reality, they would claim to have received a message from the “other side.”
We see the effects of what the Bible refers to when it speaks of sorcery all around us today. Marijuana is being legalized in more places. Cocaine is still flooding communities. And this week, the president declared a “public health emergency” over the opioid crisis which is killing tens of thousands of individuals who are addicted to pain killing drugs every year. There is a whole lot of “sorcery” going on today, and people are dying because of it. Those who produce and promote death-dealing, life-damaging drugs, as well as those who put their trust in them for release, pleasure, or to get some kind of enjoyment out of life, without turning to Christ, will end up forever on the outside of Heaven.
Of course, today, we use the term sorcerer to indicate someone who seeks to use or control magical powers, particularly those having to do with the dead. But, they and their forbears, will be condemned to remain without the New Jerusalem for eternity.
If you are not a believer, you will be condemned to remain without the gates of Heaven. Make sure you are within by placing your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Allow me to show you how you can do that right now.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
