Chaplains are spiritual representatives of Christ commissioned to work in mostly secular institutions. We are expected to serve both the spiritual and emotional needs of others through listening, prayer, Scripture reading, and being God’s hands and feet in the organization we are privileged to serve in. This podcast is designed to equip chaplains and those training to be chaplains with the resources and encouragement they need to carry out their calling in life.

Our Ordained Chaplains Scripture Verse for today is Galatians 5:22-23 which reads, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Our Ordained Chaplains quote for today is from Ralph Waldo Emerson. She said, “It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.”

In this podcast, we will continue discussing the book “Out of the Depths” by Anton T. Boisen. We continue today with “Chapter 4: A Little-Known Country” (Part 1):

My plans for a pastorate ran into unexpected difficulties. Churches were not too plentiful, especially for a man whose record as a pastor had been no better than mine. Wherever I was being considered, the first question was likely to be, “Are you married?” and the second, “Do you expect to be married?” Neither of these questions could be answered in the affirmative. I would then be told that I must be content with a “modest” church. This meant, I soon discovered, a salary so low as scarcely to permit marriage if things worked out as I still hoped they might. It seemed as though I had come up against an impassable wall.
