The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 Churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans, agrees with the AME Council of Bishops in that the NAACP organizational structure, governance, the issues surrounding transparency, the infighting, its support of the cigarette and liquor industries and its whole hearted endorsement of the radical gay agenda puts it in a moral crossroads with the Black Church. The NAACP expect the Black Church to turn a blind eye to all of its ethical and moral dilemmas that vary from its original mission. The Black Church is willing to financially support the NAACP, but it must clean up its ethical house.
Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative says, “This is why NBCI made it publicly known that the NAACP will not represent the Black Church’s interests anymore after they threw us under the bus and washed us down the drain on every substantive issue there is. It is all about the money to them. We will do everything in our power to save the NAACP from themselves but they must be willing to be saved first. However, there is another crisis to emerge in the NAACP as they try to engineer the first African American woman president of the NAACP, its former Chair of the Board. We will not support her or the NAACP going forward unless there is substantial reform in terms of their governance and a re-commitment to their original mission.”
The moral scandals of its past presidents concerning sexual immorality and now its wholehearted support of the radical gay agenda over and above its support for African American males killed by white racist cops and its lukewarm opposition to the Trump Administration undermines the Black community’s agenda for equality. In other words the NAACP has been morally compromised on top of its unyielding 64 member Board, who have been told by everyone for the past 30 years that it simply does not work.
The Black masses have begun to ignore them with how they continue to sell out our vote and our moral position to the highest white bidder. How can the NAACP speak for the Black community when it goes against everything the Black Church and the Black community is standing for? The NAACP’s lukewarm defense of African American women’s issues, lukewarm defense of African American male issues but its robust defense of the radical gay agenda gives NBCI’s 34,000 Black Churches no compelling reasons to support them economically.
