Unarmed Black Man Shot by Louisiana Police, Girlfriend Arrested

An Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s deputy has been placed on administrative leave following a fatal shootingThursday morning in Mamou, according to a spokesman with the sheriff’s office.  

State troopers say the deputy was responding to an attempted burglary when an altercation ensued between the deputy and 27-year-old Dejuan Guillory.

Guillory died as a result.

The deputy received injuries as well, but has since been released from the hospital, according to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s spokesman.

Investigators with Louisiana State Police arrested Dequince E. Brown, 21, of Church Point, who was allegedly with Guillory during the incident. Brown was booked with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer into the Evangeline Parish jail.

When reached for comment, a spokesman with Louisiana State Police says they aren’t releasing further details at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.
