An 88-year-old woman was attacked and robbed while walking home from church on Sunday near the Ithaca Commons, according to Ithaca Police.
Officers say the woman was walking on the 200 block of S. Geneva Street just after noon when someone grabbed her purse from behind. The woman struggled with her attacker, before being pushed to the ground.
During the altercation, the strap to the purse broke and the suspect took off running with it. Police say the suspect then jumped into a vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle was last seen driving north on S. Geneva Street and turning left onto W. Green Street, driving the wrong way on a one way.
Witnesses of the attack immediately rushed to help the 88-year-old woman on the ground. Police say she only sustained minor injuries during the incident that she was treated for at the scene.
The suspects are described as a black woman and a black man. Police say the woman is heavy set and possibly in her thirties who was last seen wearing light colored clothing. The man was seen driving the vehicle from the scene. The vehicle is described as a small white and grey sedan or SUV.
