In deference to our nation’s ever increasing religious diversity, the language of chaplaincy is changing. At one time the preferred term was “pastoral care.” Later “pastoral care” seemed to be too Christian and therefore narrow in scope. The more acceptable term is becoming “spiritual care,” and chaplains now work in “spiritual care departments.”
