Carole, who was a glamorous fixture on the New York and Hamptons scene when she met Crist in 2007, was previously married to Blue Star Jets’ former owner Todd Rome, with whom she has two daughters.

“I think the world of Carole. She’s an amazing person. It just didn’t work out for us,” former Florida governor Crist told the Tampa Bay Times. “I wish all the the best for her.”

They got engaged in 2008, when he was a Republican governor, seen as a top contender to be Sen. John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate, which, of course, didn’t happen.

He had unsuccessful campaigns for the US Senate as a Republican, and then as an independent.

Then he became a Democrat and made an unsuccessful bid for governor. Last November, Crist was elected to the House of Representatives, and Carole went on his payroll as his political director.
