Lottie Watkins, First African-American Woman in Atlanta to Earn Real Estate License, Dies

A true local trailblazer has passed away.

Lottie Watkins, the first African-American woman in Atlanta to earn a real estate license, has died.

Watkins became a real estate broker in the 1960s. She was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1977.

Watkins was also active in the Civil Rights movement.

She was educated in the Atlanta Public School system.

Watkins’ funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 27 at the Providence Missionary Baptist Church on 2295 Benjamin E. Mays Drive in southwest Atlanta.
