Minnesota Pastor Dies In House Fire; Son, Daughter-In-Law Escape Uninjured

Jeff Sorvik

Authorities have identified the 52-year-old man who perished in a fire that destroyed a home in Normanna Township on Saturday.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said the remains of Jeffrey Sorvik were found in the rubble after an extensive search of the house that Sorvik lived in at 6139 Pioneer Junction Road.

According to websites and his Facebook Page, Sorvik was in a leadership position called Church Multiplication Catalyst for the Evangelical Free Church of America, a position he took in 2013. He had previously served as lead pastor at Anchor Point Church in Duluth and North Bay Community Church in Superior. He’s a native of Bloomington, Minn.

Two other residents, believed to be Sorvik’s son Josh and daughter-in-law Chelsea, were able to escape uninjured from the home but were unable to return to the home to help Jeffrey Sorvik because the fire was too intense.

The fire was reported just before 1 p.m. Saturday. It was initially reported that the home was full of smoke, but the home was engulfed in flames shortly after that.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the state fire marshal.
