TEXT: Revelation 21:1-8

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The Free State of Glory and the Prison State of Despair (Part 10)

Anthony Garland said, “Jesus told the Pharisees, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. The coming of the lawless one, the Antichrist, was with all power, signs and lying wonders. Those who continue to lie will ultimately fall prey themselves to lies: they will not come to the truth. Eventually, their own conscience becomes seared. All who reject salvation are ultimately liars: “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.” The truth of God has been made known to men through general revelation, but men actively suppress the truth (lie) in unrighteousness. Knowing the truth, they promote false ideas such as God doesn’t exist or that His existence cannot be known.”

John Gill said, “All liars in common, and particularly such who speak lies in hypocrisy, as the followers of the man of sin, and who are given up to believe a lie, that they might be damned; all lies being of the devil, and abominable to God. All and each of these shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.”

Matthew Poole said, “All such as are liars with their tongues, speaking what they know to be false; or liars in practice, that is, hypocrites, seeming to be what they are not, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death: all these, and all such like, shall be eternally damned.”

Of those who will not be making it into Heaven, we have discussed the “fearful,” the “unbelieving,” the “abominable,” the “murderers,” the “whoremongers,” the “sorcerers,” and the “idolaters.”

The last group of people named among those who will not go to Heaven are “all liars.” Lying is speaking or acting in a way that is not in accordance with known truth. The definition of the Greek word, “pseudo”, translated as “liars,” is: untrue, erroneous, deceitful, or false. Lying carries its greatest offense when one tries to convince someone else to believe that which is not true. Psalm 58:3 says, “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.”

We know innately that lying is wrong. But one of the earliest prohibitions that God issued to His people was against lying. In Exodus 20:16 says, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Bearing false witness is engaging in actions or speech that do not align with the truth. Lying is destructive to relationships because when lies are told and believed, people begin acting on false information and with superficial intentions. Lies destabilize the foundations of all relationships, be they family, marriage, business, friendships, government or otherwise.

Lying has evolved from the simple telling of a falsehood. Today, we exaggerate. We gossip. We tell ” little white lies.” We tell lies to “protect” others. But, in God’s eyes, all of this is lying or bearing false witness. John MacArthur said, “Truth has no degrees or shades. A half-truth is a whole lie, and a white lie is really a black lie.”

A little girl once said to her mother, “I’ve been thinking that it’s worse to lie than to steal.” “Why?” said her mother. “Well, you see,” said the child, “if you steal anything, when you are sorry for it, you can give it, or the price of it, back. But, if it’s a lie, it is gone forever.”

Perhaps, the main reason why those who do not accept Christ and put away their lying ways will not make it into Heaven is because lying is diametrically opposed to God’s character. The Bible says, “It is impossible for God to lie.” However, it calls the devil “the father of lies.” The devil has been lying to human beings since the beginning of time. He had to invent falsehoods to deceive Eve and get her to disobey God and condemn the whole human race.

Today, many people are living their lives based on the lies of the devil. They have rejected God’s truth and their ‘foolish hearts have become darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they have become fools.’ Horatius Bonar said, “All unbelief is the belief of a lie.” Some of those who are enslaved to the devil’s lies also do the devil’s work by lying to others.

In the end, the Bible says that all things will be revealed. Every lie. Every half-truth. Every secret kept. Every exaggeration. Jesus said, “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.” Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” All lies will be uncovered for what they are. And all those who continued in their lying ways will go to the Lake of Fire with the Father of Lies.

If you are willing to set aside lying and turn to the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, placing your faith and trust in Him for salvation from sin and the punishment of sin, allow me to share with you how you can do that right now.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew All 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
