The White House on Tuesday urged the media to let President Trump’s youngest child “grow up outside of the political spotlight.”
One day after a “Saturday Night Live” writer was suspended for tweeting a joke about Trump’s 10-year-old son, the White House statement appealed to the “longstanding tradition that the children of Presidents are afforded the opportunity to grow up outside of the political spotlight.”
“The White House fully expects this tradition to continue. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.”
SNL writer Katie Rich on Friday tweeted a joke mocking 10-year-old Barron Trump during the president’s inauguration.
Rich issued an apology Monday, saying she regretted her “actions & offensive words” and calling her behavior “inexcusable.” She was suspended Monday as well.
