During the confirmation hearing for Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for U.S. attorney general, protesters shouted and interrupted the proceedings. “No Trump, No KKK, No Fascist USA,” many demonstrators in the room yelled Tuesday morning before they were escorted out. Others held signs that said “End Racism—Stop Sessions.” The proceedings continued despite the interruptions. Several civil-rights organizations have expressed outrage that Trump chose Sessions for the role, including the NAACP and the ACLU. The NAACP Legal Defense Fund in particular pointed out that Sessions has a “decades-long record—from his early days as a prosecutor to his present role as a senator—of opposing civil rights and equality.” Sessions, when asked how he feels when people call him racist, said: “Well, it does not feel good.”
