The Free State of Glory and the Prison State of Despair (Part 6)
TEXT: Revelation 21:7-8
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The Free State of Glory and the Prison State of Despair (Part 6)
The Bible explicitly and consistently teaches the reality of Hell. Right here, in the middle of one of the most beautiful passages in the Bible — a passage all about Heaven — we find mention of a place called the “lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.” We also find mention of people who will not go to Heaven. We have already examined those described as “fearful,” “unbelieving,” “abominable,” and “murderers.”
The next type of people mentioned in Scripture who will not make it into heaven are described as “whoremongers.” The word means one who indulges in unlawful sexual intercourse; a fornicator; a man who prostitutes his body to another’s lust for hire; a male prostitute. The Greek word that is translated here is “pornos” which is used many times in the New Testament to describe all kinds of sexual immorality. John Piper said, “This phrase ‘sexual immorality’ means mainly fornication — that is, two people acting as if they are married when they are not married, touching each other and sleeping together in a way God designed only for a man and a woman married to each other. The issue here is also sexual desires that dominate your life in ways they should not. For our day, I think we could include here desires that lead to the use of pornography and desires that lead to a fantasy life for men and women.” When we commit sexual sin, we defile our bodies which we are meant to keep holy before God. And nothing unholy can make it into God’s Heaven. Thus, those who do not turn to Jesus Christ for salvation from sexual sin will not make it into Heaven.
Finally, today, the Bible speaks of “sorcerers.” The Greek word translated here means “one who prepares or uses dark remedies.” At first glance, this definition seems to place medical doctors in a negative light, especially since our English word “pharmacy” comes from this very same Greek word. But that is not the case. Apologist Robin Brace said this term describes remedies administered “in order to stimulate hallucinations or visions. It was long a part of pagan religious practice to administer potions, or drugs, which would encourage hallucinations. There is, of course, a direct parallel here to modern illicit drug taking. But these original ‘pharmacists’ were involved in the black arts and in demonology; the basic idea was that taking certain potions could bring one into contact with the spirit world, and that this was to be desired.” Drug use aside, our society is seeing a resurgence of interest in spiritism and the occult. According to an article published on Aleteia.org, increasing secularism in the West is fostering rising involvement in unseemly spiritual practices. Research has indicated that, “in the last few years, more people have turned to Ouija boards, witchcraft, astrology, fortune telling, and other occult practices that ‘open the door to the demonic.'” Jesus said that Hell was prepared for the devil and his demons, and anyone who is in league with demons will not make it into Heaven.
Despite what many would have you to believe, not everyone is going to Heaven. The common denominator of all those who miss out on this wonderful place is that they never turned from their sins and turned to Jesus Christ for salvation. If you have yet to place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, I encourage you not to delay any longer. No sin, no matter how pleasurable, is worth it if it causes you to miss out on Heaven. Because of Jesus Christ, your sins are no longer an immovable barrier. You can have a home in the New Heaven and the New Earth if you trust Jesus Christ today.
Allow me to share with you how you can do that right now.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
