Former Ald. Sandi Jackson filed a request for a divorce from ex-U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. in Washington, D.C., last month, and is asking for sole custody of the children and alimony because she “does not have the ability to be fully self-supporting,” according to court records.
Jackson Jr. filed paperwork showing an intention to file for divorce in July, according to Cook County court records and his attorney, Barry Schatz. He filed a formal divorce petition Monday in Cook County, citing irreconcilable differences after 25 years of marriage.
Schatz said an Illinois court will hear arguments on whether it has jurisdiction first, since he and his client filed first in July. A hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4, he said.
Jackson Jr, 51, in his filing requests that the couple’s children “reside with him, subject to Sandi’s exercise of reasonable parenting time.”
