The City of Light’s most iconic monument went dark on Wednesday night in support of the citizens of the besieged city of Aleppo in Syria.
“At the request of Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the Eiffel Tower will be symbolically dark this evening, Wednesday 14 December, to demonstrate the support of Paris to the besieged inhabitants of the city of Aleppo in Syria,” the tower’s management announced on its website.
“This symbolic measure, on a monument observed throughout the world, aims to challenge the international community on the urgency to act,” the statement continued.
