2 Georgia Police Officers Shot While Serving Search Warrant; Suspect Dead

Two police officers in Georgia were shot Monday morning while serving a search warrant for drugs in Crawford County.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent J.T. Ricketson said a multi-jurisdiction drug task force knocked on the door of a home on Highway 42 three times around 2:30 a.m. ET. Crawford County, in central Georgia, is about 20 miles west of Macon.

When no one answered, the officers from Byron, Ga., went inside. One person in the home started firing at the officers.

The officers returned fire, shooting the person who shot at them. Fort Valley Police said the alleged gunman was killed. The suspect, who has not yet been named, was in the home with his girlfriend and 1-month-old baby.
