Vice President-elect Mike Pence on Tuesday did not commit to whether he’d like to see Michael Slager prosecuted in federal court, instead saying the Trump administration will be responsible for reviewing and deciding. Ex-cop Slager’s murder trial ended Monday when the judge declared a mistrial because of a hung jury. Even though a South Carolina solicitor has vowed to retry Slager in state court, much of the focus will now shift to the charges of civil-rights violations the ex-cop faces in U.S. court. Asked whether President-elect Donald Trump and his administration would support a continued federal case against Slager, Pence told MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts on Tuesday that “I think that will be a decision that the attorney general will review and make after Jan. 20,” the day of Trump’s inauguration. Slager, who is white, was seen on video fatally shooting Walter Scott, an unarmed black man, in the back as he ran away.
