A few armed Secret Service agents and a U.S. Coast Guard boat with a machine gun might seem like excessive security for a young boy’s play date – but not if your name happens to be Barron Trump.
The 10-year-old son of President-elect Donald Trump and wife Melania was spotted playing with a group of children at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida where his family were spending Thanksgiving.
Barron was being watched closely by several men who appeared to be Secret Service agents as he mingled with other children on the lawn at the back of his dad’s luxury estate.
At least three men were seen standing within feet of Barron the entire time and they followed the boy wherever he went.
He was dressed in a pair of shorts, a shirt and a red baseball cap just like Trump’s Make American Great Again campaign hat.
At one point, Barron was seen waving and watching on as a coast guard boat sailed past him as he stood on the ocean wall.
The boat had a guard stationed at the front of vessel armed with a massive machine gun as it patrolled back and forth in front of where Barron was playing.
They were part of a contingent of 150 security personnel assigned to watch over the Trump family as they spent their first post-election holiday at the vacation retreat last week, according to NBC News.
Mar-A-Lago proved to be logistically complex for the Secret Service given the family’s quarters sits in the same building where members mingle.
The back garden, where Barron was seen playing, also faces the intracoastal waterway, which is wide open and clearly visible from the main road.
When the Trump family arrived at Palm Beach last week, roads were closed off to make room for the 45-vehicle convoy that included limousines, vans and a fire engine.
When Trump gets sworn in January, he is expected to have more than 900 Secret Service agents and personnel protecting him and his family in both Washinton D.C. and his hometown in New York City.
His 17 family members will be protected, including Melania and Barron and his four adult children, three of their respective partners and eight grandchildren.
Security at the moment to protect the President-elect is estimated to be costing $2 million per day.
External security being handled by police in New York outside Trump Tower is costing an estimated $1 million a day and is expected to increase given Melania’s decision to stay in Manhattan with Barron until the finishes the school year.
