Billy Bush is being wooed for a comeback.
Just weeks after he was fired from the “Today” show following the leak of a troubling hot-mic conversation he had with Donald Trump back in 2005 — and just days after the presidential election — another high-profile news outlet is reportedly trying to hire the former “Access Hollywood” anchor.
According to Page Six, conservative website Breitbart News wants Billy, 45, to lead its Hollywood coverage.
“They are trying to recruit Billy Bush,” a media insider told Page Six. “They want to expand covering Hollywood in a big way — and think Billy would be perfect for the job.”
Breitbart — which is lead by President-elect Trump’s adviser Steve Bannon — has a Big Hollywood blog that’s about the entertainment industry but it does not have a TV network, the New York Post’s gossip column points out.
And Billy loves being on television.
Page Six notes that as part of his settlement with NBC, Billy is no longer under a “noncompete clause,” so he doesn’t have to wait to take a new gig elsewhere.
But it’s unclear if Billy is interested in the gig. “Billy’s ego is big,” a media insider told Page Six. “He likes to be a TV star and would want to go to a rival like ABC or CBS.”
In October, Billy was suspended by NBC just a few months after he’d joined “Today” in its 9 a.m. hour and quickly entered into settlement negotiations with the network after it was revealed he’d participated in a vulgar and crude conversation about groping women with Donald, who was at the time a reality star and host of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
