Colin Kaepernick’s protest against the national anthem has sparked an ongoing debate about the obligation of players to stand — or not stand — during the anthem.

Many players have joined with Kaepernick’s protest in solidarity, but with the first Sunday of NFL season falling on the anniversary of the September 11th attacks, many think it would be inappropriate for players to not stand on such a sad day.

Rob Lowe is one of them, and on Saturday, he tweeted saying that the NFL should ask players to stay in the locker room rather than publicly protest the anthem.
