LISTEN: Walking Worthy of Our Calling, Part 15 (Revive the Family, Revive the Church, Awaken the Nation, O Lord #217 with Daniel Whyte III)

A series of homilies on Ephesians.

A homily is “a short talk on a religious or moral topic; a usually short sermon; a lecture or discourse on or of a biblical theme.”

I am sharing a verse-by-verse series of short messages on Ephesians (as well as other passages of Scripture) specifically targeted at reviving families and encouraging and exhorting husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and children to do what God has commanded them to do, for if the church is to be revived and the country is to be awakened, the family must be revived first.

TEXT: Ephesians 4:3-6:

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Someone once said, “Passing along the road the other day, I thought I had found a very beautiful knife. On picking it up, I found it to be only a handle without a blade. So do we hear very beautiful sermons — well written and well read — but they are without a blade. They cut out no cancers of sin and carve out no models of piety. Sermons must have blades!”

Leonard Ravenhill said, “God is taking His hands off of America because we’ve had so much light and we’ve rejected it.”

In their book, The Ten Greatest Revivals Ever, Elmer Towns and Douglas Porter share with us: “The revival that began on Christmas morning in Cornwall, England, was among the first expressions of revival in the Second Great Awakening. It actually preceded the larger awakening by several years. Like other revivals of that era, it resulted in significant church growth as people who had abandoned the church were won to Christ. What began in Cornwall soon spread throughout the British Isles, North America, and various other nations.”

Because Christian believers are tasked with striving to maintain the unity of the church, it is important that we understand where the source of that unity lies. Paul begins to address this when He says, “There is one body, and one Spirit…” We should not speak of a divided church because the true Body of Christ and the true Spirit of Christ are, by nature, one. They are absolutely unified. There is no division between them. So, when we speak of disunity or division in the church, it is because we, the people, are not doing our job.

Let’s pray.

Now, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, please keep in mind that the Bible says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” Just pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will. I will be sharing more on the matter of salvation in the next segment of our service which starts in about 5 minutes.
