New Social Experiment Allows Donors to Provide Money and Services to People of Color

The reparations debate is one that is often discussed when it comes to equality for Blacks in America, and a new experiment is taking the conversation one step further.

“Reparations” is giving white people a chance to help “fix” racial injustice by donating money, goods and/or services to people of color. The website was started by Natasha Marin. The conceptual artist says the site began as a social media experiment on Facebook last month.

“What if you actually did something meaningful for someone before the end of the year?” the website states.

“What if a stranger restored your belief in humanity, if only for a moment, by supporting you and allowing you to claim something you need in a material way? I invite People of Color to ask for what we need to feel better, be happier, be more productive by posting in this space…”

The website allows people of color to post perceived needs such as errand rides, childcare services and career advice. Those interested in helping can respond by fulfilling those requests or by posting a service that they are willing to give.
