AN ASYLUM seeker allegedly stabbed a 65-year-old priest in his own home after he reportedly refused to give the refugee money after letting him use his shower.
Jos Vanderlee was rushed to hospital with injuries to his hands and tendons after the alleged stabbing in his home in Lanaken, Belgium.
The asylum seeker knocked on the pastor’s door to ask if he could use his shower, according to local media.
After using the shower, the suspect demanded Mr Vanderlee give him some money – stabbing him when he refused.
The alleged attacker was reportedly trying to claim asylum in the Netherlands, just a few miles away from the sleepy village where the priest lives.
The suspect is now on the run after the stabbing on Sunday afternoon.
The incident comes just days after two crazed Islamic State jihadis executed a French priest at his own altar.
Mayor of Lanaken Mario Keulen said: “Despite the fact that we are shocked, we must stress that this incident can not be linked to terrorist acts at this stage of the investigation.”
Pastor Vanderlee is responsible for eight parishes in the area and celebrated 40 years of priesthood earlier this year.
Last week, 19-year-old Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean slit the throat of 84-year-old Fr Jacques Hamel after storming his church in northern France during morning mass.
It is claimed ISIS fanatic Kermiche was arrested in Germany last year after trying to flee to Syria.
