For those who’ve been thinking, “Geez, it’s been awhile since Eddie Murphy was in a movie,” listen up: Cinelou Films has set a September 16 bow for Mr. Church, the actor’s first flick in four years. The drama centers on the lifelong friendship that develops between a young girl (Tomorrowland‘s Britt Robertson) and the cook (Murphy) hired to help care for her dying mother (Natascha McElhone).
Bruce Beresford directed the film from a script by Susan McMartin. Cinelou co-CEOs Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton are producing with Lee Nelson and David Buelow. Exec producers are Yu Wei Chung of Shenghua Entertainment, Dennis L. Pelino and Fredy Bush.
“We are proud to be a part of Eddie Murphy’s return to the big screen, particularly because he’s playing a role so different from his previous work,” Solomon said. “It’s thrilling to see him demonstrate his incredible talent and skill with drama in Mr. Church.”
