A Maryland woman was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Monday after fatally running over her husband with an SUV in 2015.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks says she was surprised a jury chose not to convict a Lanham woman of murder despite a graphic video showing the suspect running her husband down with an SUV.

After two days of deliberations, jurors instead convicted 38-year-old Alvarez-Mendoza of involuntary manslaughter in the August 2015 incident near the couple’s Lanham home.

Security camera video released after the verdict appears to show Alvarez-Mendoza intentionally accelerating toward her husband, who is running away.
